Software, the way it should be made.

Aeso is a software design and development studio in Aurora, Ohio. We take on the whole stack — firmware, web, mobile, and the design that ties it together.

Our mission

Aeso exists because good software is still rare. Plenty of code gets shipped; far less of it is designed with intent, built to be understood, and maintained without dread. We started this studio to do the work properly: small teams, senior hands, and craft in every layer — from the interrupt handler to the interface.

The name comes from Aesculus glabra, the Ohio buckeye — the state tree of our home. Like the tree, we're rooted in Ohio, and we plan to be here for a long time. That's how we think about the software we build too: not as deliverables to hand off, but as things that should still be healthy and growing years from now.

The founder

Founder-led, by design.

When you work with Aeso, you work with the person who builds your software — not an account manager.

Aeso was founded by Mike Buss, a software engineer with over ten years of experience building software across industries — including defense and healthcare, where correctness, security, and reliability aren't nice-to-haves. That background shapes how everything here gets built: carefully, deliberately, and with the long term in mind.

Keeping the studio founder-led is a deliberate choice. It means every project gets senior attention from the first conversation to the last commit, nothing gets lost in translation between "sales" and "delivery," and the person you talked to on day one is the one accountable for the result.
